Notes on Lecture 02/27/2023
Feb. 27th, 2023 09:10 pm- I played as the postdoc Rao again but this time I chose a different path.
- I chose to not ask for clarification when the PI asked if I was doing something wrong. I just kept quiet.
- When Rao’s wife asked him to come home from the lab, I decided to not skip the time point.
- When asked to go to the RCR training I decided not to go.
- I chose not to get some food and kept working on my experiment.
- I chose not to go to the RCR training when it was offered.
- When Rao was asked to join his wife for dinner with her parents, I decided to cancel my experiment and start again the next day.
- As a result of my choices, Rao was behind on his experiment and decided to cut corners and make up data.
- Even though I decided to help Kim turn in Greg for misconduct, eventually Rao's misconduct was discovered. He was then fired from the lab and forced to return to his country since he was on a work visa.
- Overall, I think this path showed the importance of following protocol. It helps researchers stay on track. It also shows the importance of trying to find balance in your life as a researcher. Not only did his excesses cost him his career, it severly damaged his relationship with his wife once she di
